How to Totally Own Family Day
Any time my parents visited while I was in college, I would start strategizing.
I had to think through the quickest way to get my parents from my dorm room to the car and off campus.
It’s not that I don’t have a good relationship with my parents, it’s just that I didn’t see how my college life and my family could exist in the same place.
Some of my friends were, let’s say, unpredictable and I had no idea what they were going to say to my parents. Also, my roommate was the messiest person I’ve ever met in my life (sorry, Rachel) and anytime my parents showed up at my room, I could see my mom getting that tight-lipped expression because she didn’t like me living in such a disaster.
Angelo State has a solution: Family Day. This one day of the year is the perfect opportunity to give your family a glimpse of your college life (enough to satisfy their curiosity) without cramping your style.
Angelo State’s Family Day is also chock-full of events, so you have plenty of activities to keep your family entertained and occupied. Here are my picks for having a great day.
Grab A Free Lunch
The Meat and Greek Complimentary BBQ offers some great food, and while you’re out at the pavilion, you can partake in all the activities, like the photo booth, Korean games and face stickers. If you have younger siblings, this event is a must.
In conjunction with Family Day, the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts is offering free admission and tours of the facility. The museum is in a cool spot along the Concho River. After you check out the exhibits at the museum (they’re always interesting) you can take some pictures with your family along the walking paths down by the river. This whole area does a nice job of showcasing San Angelo.
Take In Some Entertainment
If you or your parents are a fan of science, you’re in luck. And again, if you have younger siblings who are along for the day, you’re definitely going to want to watch some of these science shows. The afternoon starts with a Chemistry Magic Show followed by a Physics Show. And if you’re not wanting the excitement to end, you can take in the planetarium show “Secret Lives of Stars.”
Show Your Ram Pride
Ever since last season, ASU’s Ram Jam tailgates have really taken on a life of their own. It’s a great place for college students to hang out, but it’s also really family friendly (not to mention there’s free food just about every direction you look). This is a great way for your family to soak in the Ram Fam culture and really appreciate why Angelo State is such a great place to be.
Then you can head over to the Rams football game against Midwestern State immediately following Ram Jam. What better way to close out your day?
Now it’s your turn. What are your plans for having a great Family Day? Post them in the comments below.
