How to Enjoy Spring Break on a Budget
Finally, what we’ve all been waiting for since the start of the semester is here.
Those two words become a spring semester college student’s mantra from January to March in hopes of trading our busy schedules in for a little relaxation. However, when the time rolls around, it can be difficult to figure out how to make the most of that sacred off-time, especially on a student budget.
But fear not! There are many ways to have a great Spring Break, without emptying your entire wallet.
Bring Your Student ID With You
Just because school’s out for a week doesn’t mean that establishments stop giving out discounts. Take your ID along with you to the movies, restaurants and even clothing stores to possibly knock a few dollars off the price! Not sure if the place gives student discounts? Just ask! The worse they can tell you is “no.”
Have a Party . . . a Potluck Party
We all want to get together and have a good time with friends during the break, but buying food for so many people can get expensive. The solution? Host a party in which everyone brings a dish! You can even assign each person to bring a certain thing such as a dessert, salty snack, appetizer or entrée. That way, it’s less expensive for everyone and you’ll have a wide variety of foods to try.
Go Window Shopping
Buying stuff is great, but sometimes it’s nice to just look around at what different shops have. Try going to an antique shop or a shop with a bunch of interesting knickknacks. While there may not be anything you absolutely need to buy in these kinds of shops, it can be a fun experience to see what interesting items they have for sale.
Consult with Google
If all else fails and you’re struggling to find something to do, just search “free things to do in my city” and see what comes up. You’ll be surprised at how many things there are to do for free right where you live. There are even “free admission” days at various parks and museums that could certainly be worth looking into.
Whatever you decide to do with your Spring Break 2016, remember to enjoy it to the fullest and, most importantly, stay safe. Have a great one, ASU!
