Adjusting to Life After Spring Break
For a lot of people spring break can be the time of your life (this is always the occasion for me), but time always seems to fly by when you are having fun.
Coming back to campus and getting back to the grind can be difficult but not impossible. It’s always hard coming back from a vacation, but I’m here to help you through it.
Tell Your Story
When we have a great time we want to share our experience and tell people all the types of things that we did. Comparing stories and listening to other peoples stories is normal and it helps make it a cherished memory, and one that you can reflect on with the pictures/videos that you took.
I believe telling your story is like getting that experience of your chest. Sharing your experience is like relieving some of that energy that you built up.
After a while, you will get tired of telling your story or sharing the time that you had with others and it won’t be that big of a deal anymore. Well, it will still be big for you, but it won’t be the same, and telling the same thing over and over will get old.
But try not to be one of those people who tells everyone about your spring break even if they don’t ask. No one likes that person.
Review Previous Coursework
A lot of times you have a midterm before you go on vacation and when you come back you start a new chapter or a new section in that course. If that is the case for you, then to get out of party mode and back into academic mode you can look at all the things that you studied for your midterm.
I’m not saying that you have to have a full-on study session, but it will help to just go over all the materials that you covered in the previous chapter or section. This will help you catch up and be prepared for the next class.
During spring break we tend to forget a lot of things that we learned during the semester. So this is a great way to retain a little bit of that information that you will probably be going back over when you get back.
A lot of times you tend reminisce and day dream when you are bored, and that will also keep you in that vacation mode. A good thing to do is workout or go do something that will clear your mind. Some people like to workout and read/study (I am not one of those people—I find those people amazing).
Playing video games, playing basketball, or even just sleeping are good ways to clear your mind. Or you could try making new memories with your friends. You don’t have to forget your vacation, but don’t let it consume your thoughts and distract you from the bigger picture, which is school.
