Making the Most Out of Orientation
Your first big welcome to Angelo State is usually meeting your orientation group and taking a tour of campus.
I know during my orientation I had a blast. I was talking to everyone in my group looking to make new friends of some sort. It is a lot coming at you at one time though and seems like the day is over just when it began if you’re having fun throughout. Here are a few helpful ways to make the most out of your orientation.
Orientation is about getting a glimpse at what college life is like before you actually get to come experience it. I know it was my first big experience on campus without my parents being there, so I took full advantage of that.
I made sure to meet everyone in my group, especially when we did our ice breakers. The orientation group you’re in is there for you to communicate with other students who are your age and also starting their first year of college, so you have plenty of things to connect and talk about.
Being approachable will also come in handy when you go through the Center for Human Performance (Gym) and meet all our student organizations. Their main job is of course to get you interested in what they are all about. Just don’t be afraid to be you when it comes to college. You will quickly learn that college is where you can find yourself, and it all starts here.
You finally did it! You are on your way to college and nothing can stop you now! If that doesn’t get you excited to go through orientation, then I don’t know what will.
Be ready to experience what ASU planned for your visit. I think our orientation program has gotten tremendously better and is only going to continue to become better than the year before. I mean, you have socializing with new people to get done, activities planned to make meeting new people less awkward, and food to chow down on.
There is so much going on at once but it will turn into one of your favorite memories in college as long as you get some excitement in ya for the next four years of your life!
It Is What You Make It
Overall, your orientation experience is only as fun as you make, it just like college will be. You always hear people, especially those who are older than you, that tell you to go out and get involved or maybe even they tell you to live it up while you can. Let me be the first to tell you from one college student to another, they are right.
Once you’ve made it to college, to quote Kanye, “Welcome to the good life.” So go out, get excited about orientation be approachable, and not just your orientation experience but your college experience will be nothing but awesome memories.
But remember, it all starts at your orientation!
