Ways to Disconnect from School
As we are now well into the semester, people may start to feel a bit fatigued or like they’re stuck in the rut of the norm – especially if you’re not a freshman. We all get tired of the grind. So it’s important to have ways to recharge the batteries and take time to disconnect from school and work.
Find a Hobby
Find an hobby that you enjoy, whether it’s hanging out with friends, playing a sport or watching a good movie. It should be something that makes you happy and you can say is a good use of your free time. Look for ways to entertain yourself that take you away from your normal responsibilities of life. For example, watch a TV show or read a book where you can escape to a fantasy world that is not your own. Jumping into a story where the problems aren’t yours is good for you. It’s good to give your mind a break.
Turn Off Your Phone
One important way to disconnect is turning off or silencing your phone at night and during downtime. Personally, I know the Blackboard app is always sending notifications, and I feel like I constantly get emails. So its crucial at night to give your mind and eyes a break. Put your phone away for awhile!
Get Some Sleep
Obviously sleep is a great and easy way to disconnect from everyday life. So make sure you get plenty of it. Sleep is important to help the body recharge and repair.
Take a Break from Social Media
This next suggestion I doubt students will actually do, which is unfortunate because it would be really great for some people if they did. Disconnect from social media every once and awhile. Try checking it once or twice a day and not checking overnight. Give yourself a break from the drama, the politics and the pointless updates we usually don’t care about. Call me old fashioned, but I don’t think constant social media is good for a person. Whether they’re reading or posting, too much of any one thing is not good for anybody.
Remember, as important as it is to get things done at school and work, it’s just as important to disconnect and give your mind and yourself a rest.
